We spent the morning in Rotorua. We first bought a new lens for Ben’s camera as his main lens was overexposing and failing to take a picture for more than 50% of the time. We visited the Maori village of ‘Whacka....’ which was built around thermal pools and a geyser area. The visit included a guided tour by a Maori resident and a show with dancing and the Hakka. This was a much better visit than the previous day’s ‘Duck’ ride. We then went to a Kiwi sanctuary where they are incubating eggs and rearing the chicks to 6 months before releasing them. We were not allowed to take photos of the live birds as they were very nervous – at least we were able to see them as it is highly unlikely we would in the wild as they only come out at night! We then drove to Lake Taupo – more about that in the next blog.
