Saturday 6th March

We awoke to a cloudy and drizzly day in Picton – the locals were delighted as they had not seen rain for months! The weather cleared as we drove south and rejoined the coast albeit the rain was not far away inland. We visited an excellent World War 1 air museum in Blenheim with some wonderful exhibits. From there we took the loop road to Lake Grassmere and a deserted wild coastline for our picnic lunch. Afterwards we drove to Kaikoura. This is where people come to whale watch; however, due to the weather all sailings were cancelled. We did, however, see quite a few seals basking on the rocks. We had an excellent meal – role reversal this time as Ben had fish and Liz steak!!
