Monday 15th March

The scenic photos tell the picture of our trip from Wanaka to Queensland. I think we have already used all the superlatives, so you will have to think of some descriptive words for yourselves.
We called in at Arrowtown, which is an old gold mining town. The single storey miners’ cottages reminded us of the houses in St Augustine in Florida. There is also an interest in this town because it has the remains of a Chinese town from the late 19th century, when the Chinese came to New Zealand prospecting for gold. They apparently were much harder workers and were more successful than the other prospectors of that time. Liz struck gold and was bought a little piece for a memento.
Queenstown is quite a commercialised holiday town on the side of Lake Wakatipu. There are many water sports to take part in on the rivers around and the lake itself. We found a very good Thai restaurant for our evening meal.

  2. We loved Arrowtown and stayed for three days just outside. When going up to Christchurch, you must stay at least one night at Lake Tekapo from which you will see Mount Cook and the range from the other side. Of all the places we stayed we though it probably the most beautiful views up the lake to the moutain range. Glad you're enjoying yourselves - reading the blog and looking at photos brings it all back with not a little nostalgia
